10 Years Later: Squeak N Snap Is Back in Modern Dog Magazine

We have some news that still feels a little surreal: Squeak N Snap has been named a Spring/Summer 2026 “Stuff We Love” pick by Modern Dog magazine.

And here’s the part that makes us smile – this isn’t our first time in their pages. It’s our second. The first one happened ten years ago.

The First Time Around

In February 2016, Modern Dog published an article called “Just Squeak for a Perfect Pet Photo!” – a short, enthusiastic write-up about a tiny teddy-bear-shaped device that plugged into the headphone jack of your smartphone. Squeeze the bear, the squeaker grabbed your dog’s attention, and the camera fired at the same moment. For $20, you could finally capture the shot you’d been trying to get for years.

That product was Squeak N Snap. It had been carried at Bed Bath & Beyond, found a real following among dog parents and pet photographers, and the Modern Dog feature was one of the first national nods that this little camera accessory was solving a real problem.

Then phones changed.

When the iPhone 7 removed the headphone jack in late 2016, our original product – the one Modern Dog had just put in front of their readers – had nowhere to plug in. We discontinued it. The Squeak N Snap story, we figured, was over.

The Comeback

Years later, our own kids pulled an old Squeak N Snap out of a drawer and asked, with the kind of straightforward logic only a child can muster, why we didn’t sell it anymore.

Fair question.

Pooja Kanuga – our co-founder and now the CEO of Squeak N Snap – took a hard look at what had actually changed. Bluetooth was in every phone. Smartphone photography had exploded. And the underlying problem we’d set out to solve had only gotten worse. We now call it the 47-Photo Problem: the simple reality that you’ll take dozens of photos of your dog just to get one where they’re actually looking at the camera.

So we rebuilt it. A Bluetooth shutter that works with any iPhone or Android. No app required. The squeaker is physically built into the plush (now a monkey, not a bear) – so when you squeeze, your dog hears a real, sharp squeak in the moment, not a sound from a phone speaker. Their head turns. You press. You get the shot.

That’s the camera accessory that’s now on squeaknsnap.com and – as of this issue – back in Modern Dog magazine.

The Spring/Summer 2026 Feature

When Modern Dog’s editors reached out about including Squeak N Snap as a “Stuff We Love” pick for Spring/Summer 2026, it landed with a little extra weight for us. This is the same publication that gave us our first real editorial coverage a decade ago. The squeaker has changed shape. The connection has gone from a 3.5mm jack to Bluetooth. The price has crept up by five dollars. But the idea Modern Dog described in 2016 – get your dog to look at the camera so you stop missing the moment – is the same idea on the page in 2026.

You can find the Spring/Summer 2026 issue at moderndogmagazine.com, and Modern Dog’s online write-up of the Squeak N Snap Monkey lives here.
