The 2016 version and the version sold today
This is the part that confuses people, and it is worth being direct about it. Squeak N Snap has existed in two different forms, and they work differently.
The wired version

Here is our honest opinion on why this matters beyond trivia. The older reviews are good reviews, they are still online, and they describe hardware that no longer exists. If you found one and it made you think this thing needs a cable, that is a reasonable conclusion from an out-of-date source. It does not need a cable.
How one squeeze works
You hold Murph in your hand, off to the side, near your subject's eye line. Not on the phone and not in front of the lens. When your subject is settled and you are ready, you squeeze once.
